The Ultimate GetawayGeneral Description: Over the past eight years, our customers have become accustomed to the great diving in the Dry Tortugas in the extreme western waters of Florida.  The Dry Tortugas is an cluster of seven islands and an expansive underwater reef system situated approximately 70 miles west of Key West, Florida.  Maintained as a National Marine Sanctuary, the Tortugas Banks offer the best coral reef diving in the United States.  The Dive Sports Dry Tortugas 2008 dive adventure is conducted aboard the Ultimate Getaway, the largest live-aboard dive vessel in the State of Florida.  At over 100 feet in length, the Ultimate Getaway is a perfect vessel for doing lots of liveaboard diving.  Departing from Fort Myers, Florida, the Ultimate Getaway offers the best way to enjoy the amazing reef system that makes up the Dry Tortugas banks.  Captain Rick Pitts and his crew  promise you the most enjoyable diving experience of the year.  This Dive Sports trip is different than most Ultimate Getaway trips, due to the inclusion of an additional day of diving.  We custom design our Dry Tortugas trips and offer diving at sites not normally visited during typical Ultimate Getaway trips. This trip departs from the Ultimate Getaway Marina on Wednesday September 17, 2008 at around 6:00 PM in the evening.  The overnight cruise to the Dry Tortugas allows you to awake to a hot breakfast on Thursday morning, followed by a full day of amazing reef diving.  During Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we will move from site to site offering as many as 7 or 8 dives per day at some of the best sites in the area.  At most of the sites, spearfishing and lobstering will be encouraged, as we will be diving right at the beginning of the 2008-2009 spiny lobster season.  Of course, siteseeing will still be spectacular at all of the sights we visit.   At around 6:00  on Sunday morning, we will be anchored on the wreck of the  Baja California, a freighter that met it final fate at the hands of a  German submarine during World War II.  There we will complete two dives prior to our cruise back to Fort Myers. We expect arrival back at the Ultimate Getaway Marina at approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon September 21, 2008.  For additional information about this trip, please contact us at Dive Sports at (800) 601-DIVE.

Special Equipment Requirements:  The diving on this  live-aboard will be conducted in open water a considerable distance from shore and land based emergency facilities.  As such, we think it appropriate to require certain special equipment for each diver.  For this trip, Dive Sports will require that each diver have a substantial safety sausage, capable of inflation at the safety stop depth.  We strongly recommend a sausage longer than 54",  with capability for inflation at a depth of at least 30 feet.  Each diver should also have a reel, finger spool, or some line device to facilitate shooting the marker from that depth.  We would also ask that each diver have a loud whistle or Dive Alert on every dive.  The possibility of surfacing some distance from the dive vessel cannot be discounted and these items will allow the boat crew to spot you without delay.  Also, because of the large number of dives that will be conducted each day, dive computers will be required equipment on this trip.   Dive Sports recommends that each diver have one primary computer plus one backup computer to be carried on every dive.

Fuel Surcharge:  The price of marine diesel fuel has skyrocketed over the past few years.  As such, the Ultimate Getaway reserves the right to charge a Per Person Fuel Surcharge at the time of departure.  This surcharge will be due to the boat in cash the day of departure.  As the time for departure gets closer, we will contact the boat to determine an estimated fuel surcharge for the trip.  We will then pass this information along to each of the participants of the trip.

Booking Information:  Booking for this trip can be made in person at the Dive Sports retail store or by telephone for those paying by credit card.  The $300 deposit will be required at the time of booking to reserve your spot on the boat.  Regardless of the payment method used at booking, each participant will have to provide Dive Sports with a credit card to secure the payment for the balance of the trip.  The trip balance will be due in full on Thursday, July 17, 2008.  On the morning of Friday, July 18, 2008, any unpaid balances will be charged to the credit card on file with Dive Sports to secure the balance.
